Tracee Ellis Ross gave a powerful speech at Glamour’s 2017 Women of the Year Summit. She spoke about how writing the words “My life is mine,” in her journal brought tears to her eyes. Writing those words, she realized she hadn’t been living her life as if it was her own.
She recognized that when women put themselves first by doing such things as saying no or speaking up, they are condemned and told they are being selfish, among other things.
What do you need to do to make your life yours?
What do you need to say that you are not saying?
What are you saying “yes” to that you want to say “no” to?
Thank you Deborah for this reminder about the importance of Women speaking up and putting themselves first. We practice this in our home and Katie my wife is taking an active role in the #MeToo campaign. Now is the time for Change. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
Thank you – hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend.
Dang Deb!
Speaking one’s truth is so hard. I know for me much of my darkness stems from not being courageous enough to just state what I think, feel, know to be my truth.
Thanks for the reminder.
Nice to hear from you Sam.
